navCenter - NMEA2000

NMEA 2000, abbreviated to NMEA2K or N2K and standardized as IEC 61162-3, is a plug-and-play communications standard used for connecting marine sensors and display units within ships and boats. Communication runs at 250 kilobits-per-second and allows any sensor to talk to any display unit or other device compatible with NMEA 2000 protocols.

There is no standard defined for sending NMEA2000 PGNs over Wifi and thus a number of formats are in common use.

NavCenter supports the following formats:

  • RAW ASCII from Yacht Devices but used by several manufacturers (supports receiving and transmitting PGNs).
  • NK2 ASCII from Actisense (supports receiving and transmitting PGNs).
  • $MXPGN sentence from ShipModul (supports receiving and transmitting PGNs).
  • !PDGY from Digital Yacht (supports receiving and transmitting PGNs).
  • $PCDIN from SeaSmart (Version 1.7.0) (Note this format can only receive PGNs so autoPilot control is not possible)

Please let us know via our Contact us page if you encounter any problems using the above formats and we will investigate and correct any errors.

If you use or are aware of any other NMEA 2000 format that we do not cater for, then we would be very pleased to hear from you via our Contact us page.
