We have a long list of enhancements that we intend to add to navCenter. Listed below, in roughly the order we expect them to be completed, are the enhancements that we are currently working on. Click on a title for more information.
NMEA 2000 gives us access to a lot of data on a boat's engine(s). Much of this information can easily be accessed via our Data Windows however we see a lot of value in building graphic displays that will present a coherent overview of the state and performance of a given engine using shape and colour to enhance and ease the assimilation of complex and sometimes rapidly changing information.
AIS has become an essential tool for safe navigation in crowded waters. Although normally considered part of the functionality ofered by a Plotter we can see benefits in incorporating this functionality into nC. We expect this facility to be available in the 1st quarter of 2025.
iConnected is supported by Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad. We intend to extend the facilty to iMac and Macbook before the end of 2024.
iConnect enables copies of navCenter running on different devices to share both instrument data and control of a vessel's autopilot.
Currently only Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is used as the mode of communication. BLE is designed to use minimal power while still offering high speed data transfer. This design advantage makes BLE ideal for battery-powered devices such as smartphones and watches.
The range of BLE is around 10 metres. We plan to add WiFi to iConnect as a fallback option for when a BLE connection is out of range. This changeover will be automatic and the BLE connection will be reinstated ASAP.
If you have any suggestions for functionality that you would like included in navCenter (or have spotted something that you think is not working correctly!) then please drop us an eMail via our Contact us page.
