Accessing the Data Recorder

The Data Recorder view is accessed from the navCenter's Settings as shown here in the first View.

The entry "Data Log:" is followed by "Recording" and, in this instance, an orange circle to indicate that data is currently being recorded.

Tapping "Data Log:" will bring up a View showing the current status of the Data Recorder.

Tapping the "Stop" button will cause navCenter to stop recording data.

Data Recorder Controls

The naming convention for each log is the time that Data Recording was started followed by the type of data being recorded. In the case shown here all files contain NMEA 0183 sentences.

Tapping on a filename will bring up a list of buttons as shown at the bottom of the View. Allowing the selected Log file to be sent via eMail, deleted or for all the Log files to be deleted.

Tapping Refresh will rebuild the list of Logs while tapping Record will begin recording a new Log file.

The format of a log file is a list of standard NMEA 0183 sentences as received by navCenter with each sentence preceeded by the time received. E.g.

240117-10.50.28.168,$IIMTW,16,C*0A

240117-10.50.28.170,$GPHDG,0,,,4,W*23

Data Recorder - Further Developments

Currently it is only possible to record incoming data from NMEA 0183 files. We are considering extending this facility to also record incoming NMEA 2000 data. The current thinking is that we would log the NMEA 2000 data as NMEA 0183 sentences so that it can be processed by existing analysis software.

If this facility is of interest to you then please drop us an eMail via our Contact us page.
